IN MEMORY OF BLUE
11/11/05 -- 03/09/07
This is Blue, our very first Berner.
He was the sweetest smartest dog you could ever ask for. Shortly after getting Blue, we knew this was the breed for us. He is the reason why we expanded our family by adding more Berners. We didn't have him long, but he will never be forgotten.
Unfortunately, he was a little too smart one day and actually opened the gate of our back yard. He ran off into the woods with Spike our Rottie. As they exited the other side of the woods they ran into the path of
an on coming car and both were hit. Blue didn't make it. Spike was injured very badly, and ended up losing his left front leg.
SO PLEASE if your yard is fenced in,
make sure the gate latch is hooked
so your pets can't nose up the latch.

____________________________________________________________
Bernese Mountain Dogs, aka Berner Sennenhund & Bernese Cattle Dog,
are a large breed
with beautiful tri-color markings of black, rust and white, which originated in Switzerland. They have a long coat that can be wavy
or straight and are a heavy seasonal shedder that requires frequent brushing. They are a very strong ,smart and obedient breed which makes them great watch dogs. At they same time are very gentle, loving
and great with children. The males are masculine looking and average between 85 to 110 lbs., while the females are a little smaller and very feminine looking, averaging 75 to 100lbs. They should be exercised regularly, but not to the extent of exhaustion. Especially before they are fully grown since this can cause issues with their joints which may not show till their later years. They are a cooler climate dog, but can survive in warmer areas with plenty of fresh cool water, shade and some air conditioning would not hurt either. When they are not playing or exercising they love to just lounge around and hang out with their owner. |
